Counselling

Our Counselling programs provide a wide range of services for Delta residents, from prevention to intensive support. Our professional counsellors work with families or one-to-one with individuals who may be experiencing difficulties in their lives. From personal issues, family conflict, family break down or difficult life transitions, our aim is to provide the support and encouragement, along with the skills, to help find solutions. Our counselling programs and services are safe, confidential and tailored to the individual and their circumstance.

The length of service may vary from short term and solution focused, to more intensive on-going support, depending on the needs of the individual.

With the exception of the Sexual Abuse Intervention Program (SAIP), all counselling programs require a referral from the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD).

COUNSELLING PROGRAMS

The following programs are delivered by qualified family counsellors, child and youth care workers, diversion and mental health workers.

Our Counselling and Supports to Youth (CASY) program provides up to 6 months of service to youth and/or their families around issues of parent-teen conflict, personal coping and self esteem development.

Our Crisis Intervention Program (CIP) works with families of youth to provide crisis support within 24 hours of referral.

The Youth Support Program (YSP) is for youth that require supervision services as directed by the court.

Our Child and Youth Mental Health Support Program helps connect children and youth to positive supports and services in the community.

Our Diversion Program is for youth who are referred to BGCCS from Delta Police for a first time offense. The youth receives support, education and supervision while participating in various forms of restitution.

The Youth Empowerment and Support Program (YESS) is a short term voluntary self referral program that helps youth locate the support and services they need in the community.

SEXUAL ABUSE INTERVENTION PROGRAM (SAIP)

Private, safe and confidential, this program is for the treatment of children and adolescents age 4-19, who have experienced sexual abuse, are exhibiting symptoms of sexual abuse trauma or have sexual behaviour problems.

Sessions are conducted in the strictest of confidence, with compassion by a qualified therapist who works with the child or adolescent and their non-offending family members. The use of art, play therapy and creative expression are often used to encourage dialogue and begin the healing process.

If you, or someone you know has suffered from sexual abuse, call us and start the healing process today. We are here to help.

Referral Procedure

SAIP accepts referrals from family doctors, mental health professionals, social service providers, parents, schools, counsellors and self-referral. There is no fee associated with this program for anyone living in North Delta, Ladner or Tsawwassen.

Length of Counselling

Each session is approximately one hour in length and the term may vary from a few weeks to a few months depending on the needs of the individual.
